PLANT MAGIC

The Native Americans of North America talk to the spirits of the plants:

  • The sweetgrass signals that a sacred prayer or ceremony is about to take place and purifies the environment to create sacred space.
  • Sage purifies and also seals in holiness.  For instance, in the case of a pipe ceremony where a certain vision is requested or prayer said, everyone and everything is purified in the smoke of the burning sage so that no unseen beings or impure thoughts can enter the ceremony or interfere.
  • Cedar is used both by natives and Europeans (of earlier times), to clear buildings.
  • Tobacco is one of the 4 warrior plants (garlic, marijuana, iowasca or ayahausca being the others) where the  plant vibration can over-ride that of man. Garlic over-rides the frequency of viruses and is used to express gratitude, recognition, or as a way to express reverence and requests.
  • Special utensils used only for harvesting are used by all types of shamanic traditions, including the druids.  Cut plants are received into a basket lined with skin or cloth, so they can retain their life-force.

When the spirit of a plant is recognized and acknowledged, the plant thrives.  When the archetypal spirit of the plant is appreciated, every plant of every kind thrives.

The hierarchy is as follows when it comes to the life of a plant:

1) The plant’s own spirit is the most basic life-form.

2) The elementals working with the individual blossoms.

3) The fairy of the whole bush or plant.

4) The deva (lower angel) of the area where the plants grow

5) The archetypal spirit over all plants of that kind on earth.
